One person has been arrested following a break-in at Capitec Bank on Gopalall Hurbans Road in Tongaat on Friday night.
The South Africa Response Unit (Rusa) Tonggaat Operations Center received a tip around 9:33 PM that suspects had smashed a large window and entered the bank.
“Response officers were immediately dispatched and, upon arrival, noticed one of the culprits in the bank lobby. Officers entered the bank and detained him,” said Rusa spokesman Prem Balram.
A second suspect is said to have hidden in the ceiling.
The Saps K9 unit arrived shortly after and conducted a search, but the suspect could not be found.
The suspect has been transferred to Tongersaps for further investigation.
He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
