Tembisa nurse suffers the same fate
Mnguni’s death comes a week after a nurse in Tembisa was shot at work, allegedly by her boyfriend, a police officer.
According to the Gauteng Department of Healththe police officer – on duty – entered the hospital in Ekurhuleni in a state vehicle and called his partner to the parking lot, where he shot her before turning the gun on himself.
The 31-year-old man was then flown to Milpark Hospital after surviving and is said to be in critical condition.
The police officer is affiliated with the Ekurhuleni Cluster Tracing Team, the Independent Investigative Directorate (ipid) confirmed on Wednesday.
Ipid spokesman Grace Langa said the nurse – who has been working at the hospital since April 2016 – was shot about seven times in the head and neck.
“The girlfriend was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The police officer was flown to Milpark Hospital with a gunshot wound to his cheek and is in stable condition. A murder case has been opened at Tembisa Saps,’ Langa said.
The officer has since woken up in hospital, but is in critical condition.
