Former Sundowns prodigy dies after lightning strike

A former Mamelodi Sundowns development player Lesiba Ramabula has died after being struck by lightning on his way to training last Tuesday.

According to the Polokwane Observer, Ramabula was walking to practice with a teammate when the horrific incident happened in Seshego Zone 1.

Turfloop Academy’s non-executive director of communications, Phuti Lekganyane, said the player’s passing is very sad and revealed that the midfielder was part of the team’s future plans in their quest to campaign in the National First Division, the GladAfrica Championship. .

“The news of his death has saddened the entire Turfloop FC franchise. His death is a major blow to Turfloop FC and the Ramabulana family as the young central midfielder has been the ‘crucial cog’ in the tech team’s plans to build a club that can campaign in the GladAfrica next season. Championship,” Lekganyane told Polokwane Observer, adding that the club will send a delegation to the player’s family.

They will formally express their condolences on behalf of the club. In the meantime, the club has canceled training sessions for the next two days, as the players are given time to cope with this tragedy,” he concluded.

Ramabula’s former coach Bayano Moloto, who coached him at Molemole Football Academy and Turfloop Football Academy, described the player as a humble boy and a hard worker.

“I have won many awards with him at Molemole and we are saddened by the loss. Our condolences to his family, friends and teammates. He was a humble boy and a true leader and one of the hardest working players I have ever met.” said Ramabula’s former coach.
