High fire risk expected in Western Cape



The South African Weather Service (SAWS) released a watch Friday for an extremely high fire hazard over Kamiesberg Municipality in Northern Cape and Laingsburg Municipality in Western Cape.

“Conditions are such that the BDI index is above 75. Under these conditions, fires can develop and spread rapidly, causing property damage and possible loss of human and/or animal life,” the weather service said. on Thursday

Gauteng: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme

Mpumalanga: Cloudy in the east with morning fog along the slope, otherwise partly cloudy and warm but hot in the Lowveld with isolated late afternoon showers.

Limpopo: Cloudy with morning fog along the slope, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot.

North West: Cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Free State: Cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the east.

Northern Cape: Partly cloudy and warm to hot becoming cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the north. Winds along the coast are strong to strong from the south to southeast.

Western Cape: Cloudy to partly cloudy and hot, but very hot over the northwest and eastern interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected from the afternoon over the northwestern and central interior, extending southeast to the south coast from the evening. Winds along the coast will be moderate to moderate easterly along the south coast, otherwise moderate south to southeast. The expected UVB sunburn index: Very high

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy at first in places south of the slope, then partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the north and west. Winds along the coast are initially light northeasterly in the east, then moderate to moderate easterly and strong in some places from late morning.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy at first in places south of the slope, otherwise good to partly cloudy and warm with isolated thunderstorms in the northeast. The wind along the coast is weak north-west at first, then light to moderate north-east, refreshing in the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal: Morning fog over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and rain in the northeast. Winds along the coast are moderate east to southeast north of Durban, otherwise northeast. The expected UVB sunburn index: Very high
