Orlando Pirates’ Thulani Hlatshwayo has emphasized the importance of winning the Nedbank Cup, with the Buccaneers set to face Marumo Gallants in the last 16 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The Bucs defender, who is yet to play for Pirates this year, also in last weekend’s loss to Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership, says they know what to expect from the Limpopo team.
“It would be nice if we could finish the season with some silverware. So the Nedbank Cup has given us that chance to try and at least have something to laugh about,” said Hlatshwayo.
“We have to go there and give everything to get the best possible result – it doesn’t matter how we win, as long as we win that game,” said Hlatshwayo.
“We know what to expect from Gallants, they have a good coach in Dan Malesela and they play really good football. But we also have a very good squad and we play (also) very good football, only some of the results are not to our liking. sentence. We just have to fix that and then everything will be fine.”
Hlatshwayo also believes that Pirates should take their achievements from the derby to the Gallants clash and help the team defeat their opponents.
“Look, I don’t think the team played badly during our 2-1 loss to Chiefs,” he continued.
“Yes, it’s a result we didn’t want, but we know what we are capable of and it showed in our game. The guys played really well, it’s a shame we lost that game. If we keep playing like we did against Chiefs, I am sure we will get the result we want (against Gallants).”
“It’s a cup competition and we know we have to be at our best to go all the way to the final and get the trophy, that’s our main goal.”
Pirates reached this stage of the tournament beating AmaZulu FC 1-0, while Gallants defeated lower division Santos FC 2-0.
