Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, excessive lightning in Tshwane, Limpopo

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level 2 yellow warning for severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and excessive lightning over the Mpumalanga Highveld as far as the escarpments, the boundary of the northeastern Tshwane metro and the extreme south central parts of Limpopo on Saturday.

This can lead to localized flooding, damage to infrastructure, settlements (informal), property, vehicles, livelihoods and livestock, local and short-term disruption to municipal and other essential services, localized flooding of vulnerable roads, low-lying areas and bridges, and small car accidents, the weather service warned in a statement on Friday.

This if the northern parts of the Northern Cape and western parts of the northwest fight extremely high fire hazard conditions.

Gauteng: Partly cloudy and warm weather with isolated showers and thunderstorms, but scattered in the far northeast. Expected UVB Sunburn Index: High

Mpumalanga: Hot weather in areas of the Lowveld where no rain is expected, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the slope but spread over the Highveld areas.

Winds along the coast will be light to moderate southeast, changing to northeast in the far south late in the evening. Expected UVB Sunburn Index: Low
