A passenger was killed and the driver seriously injured on Wednesday morning, March 2, 2022, in Centurion, Gauteng, when a vehicle from the N1 highway ran into the road below.
Emergency services Emer-G-Med reported that the light van overturned on its roof on Van Ryneveld Avenue, under the N1, about 6 a.m.
The passenger succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.
The driver was rushed to hospital.
“The driver was found in critical condition and several advanced life support interventions were required to stabilize him before being taken to hospital by ambulance for further care,” he said. Emer-G-Med†
This comes after the Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) reported that at least 13 people died in 12 accidents in the province over the weekend.
Pedestrians were killed in many accidents.
Four fatal accidents occurred on Friday. One of these accidents killed a 17-year-old pedestrian from Dlamini, Soweto.
Gauteng Traffic Police only one accident recorded on Saturday, which was reported to be a hit and run. An adult pedestrian was fatally injured in the incident on Pretoria Main Road in Wynberg.
Early Sunday morning, two cars collided in Meadowlands, Soweto, killing a male pedestrian.
Another fatal crash occurred in Soweto that morning when a passenger was ejected from a Caravelle Combi when the vehicle overturned in a bend.
Then, on the R21 southbound, after the Pomona exit, a Mercedes-Benz driver lost control of his vehicle and hit a street pole.
Ekurhuleni’s fire and rescue team arrived at the scene and had to use the Jaws of Life to retrieve the male driver’s body.
19 family members killed in head-on collision
This was the result of an accident in which 19 family members were killed on Saturday evening in a head-on collision between a taxi and a truck on the R34 between Bloemhof and Schweizer-Reneke in the northwest.
The relatives reportedly came from a family gathering in Bloemhof and returned home to Ipelegeng Location, Schweizer-Reneke.
