PHOTOS: Manhunt launched after failed CIT raid in Mpumalanga



Two armed suspects who were part of a group that attempted to rob a cash transport van near Delmas, Mpumalanga have been shot dead by police.

Two suspects were also arrested in the incident, which took place on the R42 on Monday morning.

That said police spokesman Brigadier General Selvy Mohlala Pretoria Rekord a money van with two security guards was attacked by a group of heavily armed suspects.

After failed attempts to rob the guards of money, the police were alerted and quickly arrived on the scene.

When police arrived, a firefight ensued, in which two suspects were shot dead. Two others hijacked a Toyota Quantum minibus in an attempt to flee, but the vehicle was chased and two more suspects were arrested.

However, there are currently suspects on the run. A manhunt has since started.

A rifle, magazines, jammers and police radios were recovered. Police also seized a white Porsche Cayenne and a silver BMW SUV used by the suspects in the robbery.

The arrested suspects are suspected of armed robbery, possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of explosives.

They are expected to appear in court in Delmas shortly.
