Pressure is mounting for teams at the bottom of the DStv Premiership standings and Chippa United midfielder Sizwe Mdlinzo says their aim is to fight to get out of the bottom ahead of their clash with Marumo Gallants at Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Saturday .
After 19 games, the Chilli Boys have amassed just 17 points, leaving them in position 14, and they follow Gallants by two points, with the Limpopo-based squad in position 11 after 18 games.
Max points will see the Eastern Cape outfit relieve Gallants in 11e instead, a good motivation for Mdlinzo and his teammates.
But most importantly, the midfielder says everyone at the club is ready for the game and that they need to redeem themselves after their disappointing result in their previous game, which saw them draw to a 2-2 draw against Royal AM. Chippa started the game well after taking a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Veluyeke Zulu and Siphelele Luthuli, before Royal’s Mxolisi Macuphu reacted with a brace for the KwaZulu-Natal side.
“The atmosphere in the camp is good, everyone is fine. But we are not happy with our last game, but we managed to regroup in the camp and we are focused on our next game. The players are all doing well and even the injured guys are back,” said Mdlinzo.
“It is a battle for relegation. They want to get out of their current log position and we also want to get a better position on the log, but we are at home coming out of a game where we lost a 2-0 lead (and eventually to a 2-2 draw). We’re focused on the Galaxy game, we’re going to do everything we can, no matter how they play, Chippa United are going for three points, that’s all I can say.
