Richard Fourie has been traveling a bit more lately and bringing a touch of panache to race across the country. He has become a fixture at Fairview this season and it has paid off – for him and the punters – as he currently tops the jockey standings in Eastern Cape.
Can we see a bid for the national championship next season?
On Friday, Fourie rides six horses at the Fairview turf track meeting and each one has a winning scream.
In the main race of the day, the 1600m Breeders Guineas (offered), the ace teams up with his former governess Justin Snaith, who raid from Cape Town with Queen Of Shadows.
The three-year-old filly has previously made the trip to the coast, in July 2021 when she won a sprint on the same turf, so she shouldn’t have stage fright. She won again at home and has been in good shape in the months since, but only slipped from the placements in the Cape Fillies Guineas as she faced some high-quality opponents.
There is nothing of that class in this area and with competent help from the saddle she should have her third win with some ease.
Of Fourie’s other fights, Jean’s Man in the third and Variety Breeze in the eighth, both for Juan Nel, are lively contenders, while Herrin in the sixth, for Alan Greeff, could offer a reasonable price.
