Saturday delicacy: Tosti with sandwiches



This delicious grilled cheese sandwich recipe is the perfect combination of two popular sandwiches, the grilled cheese sandwich and golden French toast.

Recreate these delicious sandwiches for breakfast or for Saturday brunch.

ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • pinch of kosher salt
  • 8 slices of white bread, preferably stale or day old
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked
  • 226 g Brie, thinly sliced
  • Maple syrup, to drizzle

instructions:

  1. Make French toast: In a large bowl, whisk milk, eggs, nutmeg, and salt until light and frothy. Dip the bread in the egg mixture until each slice is soaked.
  2. Melt butter in a medium non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add a few slices of bread and cook until golden brown, about two minutes per side. Transfer French toast to a cooling rack while you cook the remaining slices. Wipe the skillet clean.
  3. To make grilled cheese: Place two slices of bacon and a few slices of cheese on a piece of French toast. Drizzle with maple syrup and top with another slice of French toast.
  4. Heat a clean skillet over medium heat. Add French toast and cook until cheese is melted, about 2 minutes per side.

ingredients

  • 2 large slices of vegan bread of your choice
  • 1 tablespoon vegan butter
  • 4-5 tablespoons vegan cheddar cheese

instructions:

  • Heat a medium cast iron skillet or non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  • Meanwhile, butter both sides of your bread.
  • Once the skillet is hot, add your bread and lightly toast both sides.
  • Remove the bread from the pan and spread a semi-thick layer of vegan cheddar cheese on one side of both slices of bread. Then fold the slices together into a sandwich (cheese in the middle).
  • Return the sandwich to the pan and continue cooking over medium heat, turning a few times until both sides are nice and golden brown and crispy, and the cheese looks melty and gooey.
  • Enjoy warm. Cut in half if desired to serve. Best when it’s fresh. Delicious with soup!
