But given the way ordinary South Africans are overcome with romantic madness and scammed by con men out to steal their money, their hearts, or both, we wonder if we’re the most romantic people in the world…or the most gullible.
The man from Pretoria, Leon Barnard, has frankly said that he was robbed by a sangoma worth over R100,000 in his futile quest to get the love of his life back.

He first paid the sangoma, a woman, for “medicine,” which led to being told that his “ancestors” wanted to speak to him — but that he would first have to give 100,000 rupees for a pangolin skin to wear. The money disappeared – but no pangolin skin.
Needless to say, he not only lost a love, but also a bag of money.
Prof Jaco Barkhuizen, head of the criminology department at the University of Limpopo, said people are desperate and willing to go to extremes – to get loved ones back or get rich quick.
Lost love hurts. But it’s insane to think that magic potions can bring it back.
