Toxic friendships led Shozi to drugs

Bad company and stress are the reason behind Khayelihle Shozi’s shocking behavior that saw him reported missing and seen wandering the streets of Johannesburg as a drug beggar, says a source close to former Mamelodi development player Sundowns.

Videos of Shozi appearing to be someone who was homeless circulated on social media platforms last month. The midfielder, who last played for JDR Stars in the GladAfrica Championship, is reportedly back home and has told his family that people he believed were his friends introduced him to drugs and when he didn’t deal with them could go, they did not help him. †

“Shozi is back home in KwaZulu-Natal, recovering well and having all the support he needs. He has talked about the things that led him to do drugs and the guys he thought were his friends were the ones that led him to do drugs.

“It’s shocking because these guys don’t even play football, I don’t know how he became friends with them, it’s really worrying. I really hope that when he’s fully recovered he won’t go back to his old self and go on drugs use,” the source revealed.
