Uncertainty Abramovich weighs on Chelsea: Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel admits there is uncertainty over Roman Abramovich’s future as the Chelsea owner weighs in on his club ahead of Sunday’s League Cup final against Liverpool.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine this week, Abramovich has been the subject of much debate in the British Parliament.

Abramovich is one of a number of Russian oligarchs and companies facing potential sanctions from Britain in response to the crisis in Ukraine.

It has been suggested in parliament that the UK should seize Abramovich’s assets and ban him from owning Chelsea.

While Abramovich has so far been unpunished, Chelsea boss Tuchel admitted that the situation, along with the war in Ukraine, proved to be a distraction from Liverpool’s game at Wembley.

“We shouldn’t pretend this isn’t a problem. The situation in general for me and for my staff, the players, is terrible,” Tuchel told reporters on Friday.

“Nobody expected this. It’s pretty unreal, like I said, it clouds our minds, it clouds our excitement towards the finale.

“And it brings enormous uncertainty, much more for all the people and families who are more involved than we are right now.

“And our best wishes, greetings and thoughts are of course with them, that is absolutely the most important thing.”

Although Tuchel declined to comment directly on the Abramovich matter, he did say: “There are so many uncertainties around our club’s situation and the situation in the UK, with scenarios like this, that it makes no sense for me to comment on it.” . .

“We are aware, we may not have as much inside information as you might think.

“But I think it’s also the right of the team, the staff and myself, maybe not to be political, to play sports and to focus on sports.”
