We didn’t play well, admits Pirates’ Mako

After their scoreless stalemate with Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership clash, Orlando Pirates defender Paseka Mako believes the Buccaneers display was poor and they should have won the match.

In the 0-0 draw with the club from KwaZulu-Natal at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday, the Soweto club registered their 10e draw of the season in their last 20 league games, with the club taking just seven wins and three losses.

“I think it was a difficult game, but we had to win it and I think we didn’t play well in my opinion. We started slowly. They came at us by playing crosses and we had to close the cross early. So for me I’m not happy,” said the Bucs defender.

“Even if you look in the log, we’re not safe. We are number two and other teams are winning. So we have to win our home games.”

But Pirates remained in second place after the result, with the club racking up 31 points in the league so far. However, they are trailing the leaders of Mamelodi Sundowns by a massive 17 points as the Pretoria side managed to claim 48 points in 21 games.

Pirates have a huge task to close the gap between the runaway frontrunners, Downs and Bucs, in the rankings is not safe, with the likes of Stellenbosch FC, Kaizer Chiefs and Royal AM right behind them. Stellies is on 30 points after 19 games, just one point behind Bucs, while Amakhosi is in fourth place and Royal AM is in fifth place after having played 17 and 18 games respectively.
